Matt Davis made 37 saves to backstop the Green Bay Gamblers to a 4-2 win over USHL Eastern Conference foe, Muskegon Lumberjacks at the Resch Center on Saturday. In their 10 home games, the Gamblers are 8-0-2 and 11-3-2 overall.
Xan Gurney’s first of the year in the opening minute (0:42) and a Ryan Kirwan power-play goal (4:32) gave the Gamblers an early 2-0 lead.
Muskegon responded with a pair of goals, one late in the 1st period (18:33) and another midway through the 2nd (12:45).
Alex Nordstrom (15:26) redirected a John Mittelstadt shot past Muskegon netminder Nate Reid, who made 27 saves, to give the Gamblers a 3-2 advantage heading into the 3rd period.
Davis was stellar in the 3rd turning aside 17 shots. Alex Servagno salted the game away with an empty-net goal in the final minute (19:26).
The venue shifts to Muskegon, Michigan next weekend for a pair of games. Puck drops on Friday and Saturday at 6:00 PM. Games televised on HockeyTV.com.
