(Green Bay, WI) – The Green Bay Gamblers announced on Monday that forward
Jesse Tucker has been named team captain. Last season, Tucker was tops on the team in goals (18), points (43) and second in assists (25). Entering his third year with the Gamblers, the Longlac, Ontario native has appeared in 110 games, registering 31 goals and 55 assists.
“I am excited for Jesse to have this opportunity,” says Gamblers Head Coach/General Manager Pat Mikesch. “Jesse has been a leader since day one and provides a great example for his teammates to follow.”
Defenseman Mason Lohrei and forward Jake Schmaltz were named assistant captains.
Lohrei, led all USHL Defenseman in assists (29) and was second in scoring (37). The Verona, Wisconsin native, participated in the 2020 Bio Steel All-American Prospects Game and was named 2nd Team All-USHL. In October, the Ohio State commit was selected in the 2nd round by the Boston Bruins.
Schmaltz, who is also a draft pick of the Boston Bruins (7th round/2019), was acquired from the Chicago Steel prior to the 2019-20 season. In 47 games with the Gamblers, the McFarland, Wisconsin native tallied 13 goals and 19 assists. Schmaltz is committed to the University of North Dakota.
“Mason and Jake, like Jesse are both leaders on and off the ice,” says Mikesch. “Both have a great deal of experience and know what it takes to have success in this league.”
The Gamblers 27th season in the United States Hockey League begins on Saturday, November 7, as they play host to the Muskegon Lumberjacks at the Resch Center.
