USHL Combines Headed to Green Bay

The United States Hockey League has announced that the USHL Player Combines – first created in 2010 to annually showcase young players to League scouts and decision-makers and to educate players about opportunities in the nation’s top junior hockey league, will take place in Green Bay, Wis., beginning this year.

The Combines, which are held in April and July, are an important element for USHL clubs to finalize preparations for the USHL Draft – the key point of entry for players into USA Hockey’s only Tier 1 junior league.

“We could not be more excited that our Combines are going to take place in Green Bay,” said Frank Butler, USHL Director of Player Personnel. “USHL Combines provide players exposure and education on their path to the USHL and beyond. Invitees of each combine will practice and play in front of USHL coaches, USHL scouts and NCAA coaches and we are looking forward to bringing many of the top young prospects from around the world to the state of Wisconsin.”

Butler said that the Combines, which are expected to total more than 1,000 attendees, are slated to take place at Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon.

“The Greater Green Bay hospitality community is thrilled to welcome the athletes and families participating in the USHL Combines next year,” said Brad Toll, President/CEO of Discover Green Bay. “We’re a hockey town and we can’t wait to drop the puck!”

Players who are invited to participate in the Combines will have been pre-screened and scouted by USHL Central Scouting Staff. Participating players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills while playing five games in front of USHL coaches and scouts, as well as NCAA coaches. Invitees will also participate in off-ice physical and cognitive testing. There will also be opportunities for informational, educational, and networking components to help players better understand what it takes to play in the USHL.

“The USHL is excited to host its Combines in Titletown for the next three years,” said Glenn Hefferan, USHL President and Commissioner. “Bringing the combines back to Green Bay will give attending athletes and their families a remarkable experience.”
