Weekend Preview / April 1-2

The Green Bay Gamblers will play Team USA in a pair of games on Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2 at the Resch Center. These will be the seventh and eighth meetings between the teams, and the Gamblers are currently 3-3 against Team USA. The teams also played each other last weekend on Sunday, March 27 at USA Hockey Arena, where Team USA beat Green Bay 10-1. This will also be the last time the teams face each other in the regular season.

The Gamblers have a 22-28-2-1 record and are currently eighth in the USHL Eastern Conference with 47 points. Some players to watch for include Ryan Greene and Cameron Lund.

The last two months of hockey have seen Greene’s best play this season. Since February, the Boston University commit hasn’t gone a single weekend without scoring points. With this, he’s cemented himself as the top active scorer on the team with 46 points on 18 goals and 28 assists. This includes a stretch of five straight games of point-scoring, during which he’s totaled eight points on two goals and six assists.

While Greene has been the top scoring option for the Gamblers, Lund is hot on his heels. The 2022 BioSteel All-American continues his banner rookie year in which he’s become the top goal-scorer for the team. He hit the 20-goal mark over the weekend, and now sits at 21 goals on the year, taking the top spot for the Gamblers. After scoring no points the week previous, Lund came alive again this past weekend, scoring six points on three goals and three assists.

As the two top offensive options for the Gamblers riding hot streaks, look out for them to continue this trend heading into the month of April.

Team USA has a 22-24-4-1 record and are currently seventh in the USHL Eastern Conference with 49 points. Some players to watch for include Isaac Howard and Rutger McGroarty.

Projected as a top-15 pick in the upcoming NHL Draft, Howard has been a top option on a talented USA team. The Minnesota Duluth commit currently leads the team in points with 35 in 24 games on 11 goals and 24 assists. The 2022 BioSteel All-American also had a great performance against the Gamblers last Sunday, putting up three points with one goal and two assists.

Another 2022 BioSteel All-American, McGroarty has shown great offensive balance for USA this season. In 22 games, the Michigan commit has scored 28 points on 13 goals and 15 assists. McGroarty has also had a blazing three-week stretch of hockey, scoring 12 points on six goals and six assists. He also gave the Gamblers trouble last Sunday, scoring one goal to go with three assists, taking home the first star in the contest.

Expect both players to be featured offensive options against the Gamblers this weekend.

Puck drop is at 7:05 PM both days. You can get your tickets at www.gamblershockey.com.
