The Green Bay Gamblers announced today the hiring of Brian Sommariva as the team’s Director of Scouting. A native of Plymouth, Michigan, Sommariva worked for the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League from
2006-2014, first serving as an assistant coach and then as assistant General Manager (2010-14). He then spent a year with the Toronto Maple Leafs as an amateur scout (2014-15). Sommariva will be based in lower Michigan.
“Brian brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our organization, especially at the junior level,” says Gamblers Head Coach/General Manager Pat Mikesch. “We are excited to have him on board as we shape our team for the future.”
As the Director of Scouting, Sommariva will oversee the entire Gamblers scouting staff.
“I am very excited to join the Gamblers organization,” says Sommariva. “Green Bay is a marquee spot with multiple championships tied to its history. They have produced many great players and even better people. I look forward to working with Pat, Ryan and Blake in building a championship caliber program.”
Team President Brendan Bruss is also excited to add Sommariva to the team’s hockey operations.
“Producing championship caliber teams in the USHL is our goal and we clearly did not establish the right formula in the past few years,” says Bruss. “It was imperative for us to find the right person to lead and direct our scouting to build the Gamblers Hockey teams that we expect to hit the ice. Brian brings to us a tremendous skill set, he is the right fit, we are excited for him to lead this effort.”
