Green Bay splits the weekend series with Madison with each team winning on the road. Gamblers took Friday, and the Capitols took Saturday. With the series split, the Gamblers record sits at 12-6-1.
Friday night’s game saw Green Bay triumph 5-3 in Madison. Goals by Libor Nemec, Julian Lutz, Mikey DeAngelo, and Lev Katzin powered the Gamblers to the win. Madison got out of the gate first with a goal by Max Nagel at 4:11 in the first. Shortly after, Nemec took advantage of a 3-on-2 breakaway after a turnover in the neutral zone to put the puck in the back of the net from the crease at 14:57 to level the scoring. Lutz grabbed the next goal from the right circle less than 90 seconds later to give the Gamblers a 2-1 lead. The Capitols scored first in the 2nd period through Jack Henry who scored his first goal of the season at 4:50. Green Bay retook the lead through Katzin at the midway point of the period. The Canadian picked up the puck in the slot and fired it into the back of the net. The next goal wasn’t until the midway point of the 3rd period where DeAngelo doubled the Gambler lead on a short-handed goal. The Green Bay captain found himself all alone on a breakaway after a turnover in the neutral zone to make it a 4-2 game. Madison cut their deficit in half less than 90 seconds later with a goal by Austin Burnevik. Any hope of a Capitol comeback was put to rest with another goal by Katzin at 18:27 to wrap the scoring up at 5-3. For their performances, Katzin earned 1st star, while DeAngelo was 3rd star.
Saturday night’s game saw the Gamblers fall 6-4 in a 10-goal thriller at home. Goals by Green Bay were scored by Josh Player, Lutz, Geno Carcone, and Misha Danylov. Green Bay got out of the gate quick with a goal by Player just 27 seconds into the game. The New Hampshire commit fired a shot from the point to mark his 4th goal of the season. Madison equalized at the 11:22 through Rainers Rullers. Lutz stamped his mark on the game with a goal a mere 30 seconds later to restore the Gamblers lead and to score his 9th of the season. The Arizona Coyotes draft selection picked up the puck from his own rebound and fired in a shot from the left circle. Madison lit the lamp first in the second period through a goal by Bernevik at the 5:10. The Capitols then grabbed their first lead of the game through James Hong at the 10:04. Green Bay found an equalizer a few moments later through Carcone at the 11:28 to make it a 3-3 game. The Georgia native attacked the crease to get his stick on the loose puck to put the puck in the back of the net. The Capitols were able to break the deadlock at the 4:53 through team leading scorer Nagel. Green Bay found another equalizer through Danylov for his first goal of the season at the 8:08. The Ukraine native deflected a shot by Rasmus Larsson near the crease to make it a 4-4 game. Madison found two more goals through Burnevik at the 16:13, and again on an empty net with 11 seconds left in the game to finish the scoring at 6-4. For his performance, Player earned 3rd star of the night.
