The Green Bay Gamblers will play the Dubuque Fighting Saints in their last home-and-home series on Friday, April 15, and Saturday, April 16. These will be the sixth and seventh meetings with Dubuque, and the Gamblers are currently 1-4 against the Steel. The teams last played each other on Saturday, January 22 at Mystique Ice Center, where Dubuque beat Green Bay 6-1. This will also be the last time the teams face each other in the regular season.
The Gamblers have a 22-32-3-1 record and are currently eighth in the USHL Eastern Conference with 48 points. Some players to watch for include Cameron Lund and John Mittelstadt.
Lund continued his banner rookie year with the Gamblers last weekend, putting up three points on two goals and one assist. This continues a streak of scoring points in six of his last eight contests. During this time, he’s scored eleven points on six goals and five assists, a nicely balanced effort for the 2022 BioSteel All-American. He will look to continue his sharp offensive play this weekend.
For Mittelstadt, the last two weekends have seen some nice playmaking with one assist each. However, the Minnesota commit has done damage against Dubuque in this season’s meetings. In the five games played, he’s scored four points, including an impressive three goals and one assist to go with. Look for Mittelstadt to continue his great scoring efforts against Dubuque this weekend.
The Fighting Saints have a 36-16-2-3 record and are currently second in the USHL Eastern Conference with 77 points. Some players to watch for include Stephen Halliday and Connor Kurth.
Halliday has simply been one of the best players in the USHL this season. With 83 points, the Ohio State Commit sits at second in the league, and is at 50 assists on the year, third in the league. However, his goal scoring has been great recently. The 2022 BioSteel All-American has scored one goal in three straight games, starting the month of April strong. Look for Halliday to piggyback off what has been an already incredible season.
Another 2022 BioSteel All-American, Kurth is another USHL standout on this Dubuque team, sitting at fifth in league points with 73. This comes on 30 goals and 43 assists, both of which are good for top ten in the USHL. The Minnesota commit has also been one of the biggest headaches for the Gamblers this season. He’s scored points in all five games played against Green Bay, including three goals and four assists. The Gamblers will have to find a way to neutralize Kurth in the offensive zone, otherwise he will dominate as he has in the past.
Puck drop is at 7:05 PM on Friday and Saturday.
