The Green Bay Gamblers will play the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in a pair of games on Thursday, February 17, and Friday, February 18 at the Resch Center. These will be the sixth and seventh meetings between the teams, and the Gamblers are currently 2-3 against the RoughRiders on the year. The teams last played each other on February 6 in Cedar Rapids, where the Gamblers fell to the RoughRiders 4-1. Another aspect to watch for is the intense rivalry between the teams. In their last weekend matchup, both teams ended up with multiple players receiving 10-minute misconduct penalties, including a fight breaking out in their February 5 matchup.
The Gamblers have a 17-19-2-1 record and are currently sixth in the USHL Eastern Division with 37 points. Some players to watch for include Ryan Greene and Cameron Lund.
Greene has recently been one of the top scoring options for the Gamblers. Over the past three weeks of play, he’s scored 7 points, including a 2-assist game against Cedar Rapids. This recent uptick in offense has allowed him to take third in team points (33) and his 13 goals and 20 assists are good for second and third-best on the team respectively.
Lund has been the best offensive rookie for the Gamblers. His 27 points are fourth-best on the team and his goal-scoring has been paramount in the offensive success for Green Bay. He’s tied for second with Greene in team goals (13), and also had 2 assists in the same contest as Greene against Cedar Rapids. Look for both of them to make impact offensively against a team that they’ve seen individual success against.
The RoughRiders have a 16-19-1-1 record and are currently seventh in the USHL Eastern Division with 34 points. Some players to watch for include Adam Flamming and Cole Burtch.
Flamming is currently the top points scorer (32) for the RoughRiders and is a top-20 scorer in the USHL with 18 goals. He has also scored points in seven of the last nine contests, making him the hot hand for Cedar Rapids.
Burtch was added to the team early in the season in a trade with Youngstown and has been a key piece for the team. He’s second in team points (22) and has a balanced offensive effort with 11 goals and assists.
Puck drop is at 7:05 PM on both Thursday and Friday. You can get your tickets for these upcoming contests at gamblershockey.com.
