GAMBLERS TAKE TEAM USA ALUM STRAKY IN 1ST ROUND OF USHL ENTRY DRAFT

(Green Bay, WI) – The Green Bay Gamblers selected Team USA defenseman Ethan Straky with their first pick (11th overall) in the 2021 USHL Entry Draft.  Straky appeared in 50 games tallying 16 points (2g & 14a).  The Notre Dame commit also played for Team USA at the 2021 U18 World Championships this past April/May.

The Gamblers traded the #21 overall pick to Sioux Falls for future considerations.

With the #26th overall pick the Gamblers selected centerman Tim Delay.  The Boston College commit averaged over a point a game at St. Sebastian’s.

Other draft picks include forwards Stepan Kuznetsov (New Jersey Rockets), Oliver Stumpel (Reprezentacia SR), Nick Sajevic (Gentry Academy), Jack Plandowski (Bishop Kearney Selects), Riley Fitzgerald (Boston Hockey Academy), Cooper Conway (Andover High School), defensemen Tyler Pfister (Kenai River NAHL), Ross Roloson (Minot NAHL), David Hejduk (Colorado Thunderbirds), Alexandre Perreault (Detroit Little Caesars), Erick Comstock (Warroad H.S.) and goaltenders Austin McNicholas (Salisbury), Max Beckford (Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs) and Klayton Knapp (Tri-City Spartans).

Stumpel, Roloson and Hejduk all have fathers who played in the NHL.  Hejduk’s father, Milan won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2000-01. Plandowski’s dad, Daryll, who tallied the game-winning overtime goal for Northern Michigan in the 1991 National Championship game, is the Director of Amateur Scouting for the Arizona Coyotes.

Draft picks, returners and free agents will be in Green Bay, June 19-24 for the team’s tryout camp.  Camp takes place at the Resch Center and is open to the public.  Camp times will be posted on the Gamblers website www.gamblershockey.com

GAMBLERS SELECT SHAUGABAY IN THE 1ST ROUND

(Green Bay, WI) – The Green Bay Gamblers selected Warroad High School (Minnesota) forward Jason Shaugabay with their first pick (10th overall) in yesterday’s USHL Futures Draft.  Shaugabay appeared in 20 games this past year tallying 53 points (29 goals & 24 assists). Green Bay went heavy on offense, selecting forwards with nine of their 10 picks. Picks include Danny Nelson (Maple Grove Crimson), Nick Metelkin (New Jersey Rockets), Jaden Johnson (Detroit Compuware), Austin Dahms (Lakeville South H.S.). Hunter Ramos (Fox Motors), Thomas Klockhov (New Jersey Rockets) and Bradley Gardiner (St. Andrew’s College).

In the 6th round, the Gamblers selected defenseman Brady O’Malley (Detroit Compuware), and in the 9th round defenseman Hayden Vonk (Fox Motors).

All the players selected were born in 2005.

The USHL Entry Draft takes place tomorrow beginning at 1:00 PM.  Any player who is age-eligible and not currently protected by a USHL team is available to be selected. Green Bay has the 11th overall pick. Follow the entire draft at https://ushl2draft.rinknet.com/

USHL DRAFT WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY

The USHL Futures and Entry Drafts take place this Wednesday (5/26) and Thursday (5/27).  The Futures Draft consists of players who were born in 2005.  The Entry Draft is open to players with junior hockey eligibility not currently protected by another USHL team.

Green Bay has the 9th overall pick in the Futures Draft and 10th overall pick in the Entry Draft.

Gamblers Tryout Camp

The Gamblers tryout camp is Saturday, June 19 – Thursday, June 24 at the Resch Center.  Camp includes free agents, returners, and draft picks.  Players come from all over the United States, Canada, and Europe to participate.  The camp is free and open to the public.  Stayed tuned the gamblers website www.gamblershockey.com for times.
