GAMBLERS WIN A SHOOTOUT THRILLER

The Green Bay Gamblers won in dramatic fashion on Friday at the Resch Center with a 6-5 shootout win over Team USA.  The win was the Gamblers sixth in their last seven games.  The Gamblers own the second best winning percentage (.690) in the USHL with a mark of 19-8-2.

Green Bay jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 9:48 of the 1st period on Owen Murray’s first career USHL goal.

Mason Lohrei (6:13) and Ryan Greene (9:18) tallied 2nd period goals to build the Gamblers lead to 3-0.

After USA got on the board at the 9:39 mark of the 2nd, the Gamblers regained their three-goal advantage on a Victor Mancini goal (13:33).

USA scored in the final seconds of the 2nd period and in the opening minute of the 3rd period to make it a one goal game.

Lohrei tallied his second of the game at the 1:17 mark of the third to make it a 5-3 game.

USA scored at 9:53 and with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker got the equalizer at the 18:34 mark to send the game to overtime.

The Gamblers got a late power play in the overtime, but could not solve USA goaltender Kaiden Mbereko, who made 23 saves in the game.

Gamblers goaltender Matt Davis turned aside seven of the eight shooters in the shutout. Lohrei, who was the second shooter tied the shootout at 1-1.  The game-winner would come in the 8th round when Kyler Grundy found the back of the net..  Davis finished the game with 36 saves.

The two teams meet again tomorrow as the Gamblers host their annual Military Appreciation Night. Start time is 7:05 PM.  Tickets available at the Resch Center box office or online at gamblershockey.com Box office opens at 10:00 AM.

 

 

Military Appreciation Night

The Green Bay Gamblers and Fleet Farm are proud to present the

9th Annual Military Appreciation Night, Saturday, February 27.  Players will wear military-inspired jerseys.  All active duty and retired military receive a complimentary ticket to the game.  It is also a Festival Foods Family Night featuring $2 jumbo dogs, $2 soda, and discounted tickets for kids 14 and under.  The start time is 7:05 PM.  Jerseys worn by the players will be available for purchase through an online auction.

 

Resch Center box open is Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM and on game days beginning at 10:00 AM. Tickets can also be purchased at www.gamblershockey.com

TEDDY BEAR TOSS, WIENER DOG RACE AND OTHER PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCED

The Green Bay Gamblers on Monday announced dates for Teddy Bear Toss, Heavy Metal Night, and the Wiener Dog Race.  The 21st Annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by WPS Health Insurance, Saturday, April 17, Heavy Metal Night, Saturday, March 20, and the Wiener Dog Race presented by Fox Communities Credit Union Saturday, March 27.

New to the promotional schedule is We Gotcha’ Girl presented by Fox Communities Credit Union, Saturday, March 6. Everyday in the United States, girls at an alarming rate are missing school because they cannot afford feminine hygiene products.  The Gamblers are asking fans to donate feminine hygiene products, which will be donated to those in need in Northeast Wisconsin.  By donating fans will be eligible to win gift cards and autographed merchandise from Fox Communities Credit Union and the Gamblers.

Bud Nights featuring $2 Bud and Bud Light draughts continue in March and April.  Dates: Friday, March 5, Saturday, March 20 and Friday, April 16.

March features three Festival Foods Family Nights, $2 jumbo dogs, $2 soda, and discounted tickets for kids 14 and under.  Dates: Saturday, March 6, Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 27.

GAMBLERS ACQUIRE VETERAN FORWARD

(Green Bay, WI) – The Green Bay Gamblers have traded forward Brayden Stannard to the Youngstown Phantoms for forward Nate Hanley.  The University of Connecticut recruit appeared in 14 games with the Phantoms, tallying two goals and two assists.  Prior to his time in Youngstown, Hanley notched 25 points (10 goals & 15 assists) in 46 games with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders during the 2019-20 campaign.  The Rocky Point, New York native suited up for 27 games for the RoughRiders in 2018-19, registering five points (2 goals & 3 assists).

Stannard was selected by the Gamblers in the 2nd round of the 2020 USHL Entry Draft. The Bark River, Michigan native appeared in 13 games this season with Green Bay, producing three assists.  Stannard played last season in the North American Hockey League with Maryland, garnering NAHL 2nd team All-Rookie honors. Stannard is committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
