In the final game of 2019, the Gamblers took on Team USA for the second time in two days. Green Bay came out on a mission to avenge their 4-3 defeat from the night before.
Team USA would sound the horn first just 7:50 minutes into the first period. However, the Gamblers stayed determined to not face the same fate from the night before. About eight minutes later Tyler Paquette scored his seventh goal of the season to tie the game. A minute later Jake Schmaltz (8) scored to give the Gamblers the lead. Late in the period McKade Webster (7) added another to give the Gamblers a 3-1 lead after the first.
The Gamblers stayed physical in the second period and kept their foot on the gas. Mason Lohrei (5) who also had two assists on the night added another and the Gamblers went into the third up 4-1.
The third period was more of the same for the Gamblers. They found the back of the net three more times, Two of the goals came from Chad Hillebrand to bring his total up to eight goals on the year. Jesse Tucker (15) was the other goal scorer in the third period. After a 4-3 loss last night the Gamblers ran away with this one winning 7-2.
The Gamblers are back on the ice Thursday, January 2nd in Dallas to take on the Chicago Steel. Then on Friday, January 3rd the Gamblers play the Chicago Steel again in the Frosty Cup. Monday, December 30 the Green Bay Gamblers and corporate partner Fox Communities Credit Union hosted the 11th Annual Mitten Toss at the Resch Center. Gamblers forward Nicholas Zabaneh scored at the 8:01 mark of the opening period, which was followed by the crowd tossing mittens on the ice. Overall, 911 mittens were collected. Mittens are donated to Title 1 schools in Northeast Wisconsin.
Since 2009, the annual Mitten Toss has collected nearly 15,000 pairs of mittens.
Fox Communities Credit Union has been the “Presenting” sponsor of the mitten toss each of the 11-years. The Gamblers also want to thank Saranac Glove for their donation of mittens.
The Gamblers and Fox Communities Credit Union team up again on Saturday, February 15 for the Wiener Dog Race and Saturday, April 18 for We Got You Girl, promotion dedicated to school-aged girls and ensuring their success in the classroom and in life.
Green Bay returned to the Resch Center after a two-week holiday break. The Gamblers enter the game fourth in the Eastern Conference with Team USA sitting in second. After a strong first for the Gamblers, Team USA would find their groove and end the night with a 4-3 victory over the Gamblers.
Nicholas Zabaneh would get things started for the Gamblers with his seventh goal of the season. About three minutes later Kyler Grundy would add another for the Gamblers and increase their lead to 2-0.
Team USA would rattle off three straight goals in the second. Ryan St. Louis would find the net twice for Team USA.
Ryan O’Reilly would score to bring the Gamblers within one with only two seconds left and get the Gamblers to within one. Grabko was back in net tonight and had 23 saves on the night.

The Gamblers returned to the Resch Center tonight after two straight road games to take on the first place Dubuque Fighting Saints. It was a physical game that saw both teams getting after it. Dubuque would jump to a 3-0 lead before the third period. In the third period, the Gamblers would score two goals to come within one. However, it would end there with Dubuque winning 3-2.
At the end of the first period, Green Bay trailed 1-0. The team had 13 shots on goal and had hopes of coming back into the game in the second period.
Things were looking bleak at the start of the third, but the Gamblers would have other sights in their eyes. Mason Lohrei would score first for the Gamblers with Jake Schmaltz adding another quickly and getting within one. The Gamblers got a late powerplay with a minute left and Grabko being pulled, Green Bay would up two players. The Gamblers had a couple of quality chances, unfortunately, come up empty and fall to Dubuque 3-2
The two teams face off again tomorrow night in Dubuque. Puck drops at 7:05 pm and can be viewed on www.hockeytv.com or live at the Drift Inn in De Pere. The Gamblers head out for Christmas break, but they are back at the Resch December 30th and 31st to take on Team USA. Tickets can be bought at www.gamblershockey.com/tickets.
