Zhukov Named CCM Goaltender of the Week

Today the USHL announced goaltender Maksim Zhukov has been named CCM USHL Goaltender of the Week.

In his only start of the weekend, Zhukov stopped all 17 shots he faced in Green Bay’s 7-0 shutout of in-state rival Madison on Saturday night for his third shutout of the season. The Russian netminder now sports a record of 12-7-1-1, a 2.37 GAA and a .907 SV%. His GAA is tops among rookies and 10th among all USHL goaltenders. Zhukov is in his first season in the USHL and was raked fifth among North American goaltenders on NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm List earlier this year. He was also named the starting goaltender for Team East at the 2017 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. Prior to his time in the USHL, Zhukov played for Loko-Yunior Yaroslavl in Russia. He was a third round selection, 40th overall by Green Bay in the 2016 USHL Phase II Draft.

Dash for Cash Nets $11,500 for Local Schools

The Green Bay Gamblers and North Shore Bank teamed up this past Saturday (1/28) to raise $11,500.00 for local area high, middle and elementary schools. Twenty-eight teachers representing the communities of Appleton, Brillion, DePere, Green Bay, Greenville, Kewaunee, Kimberly, Marinette, Mishicot, New London, Pulaski, Suamico and Wrightstown collected various amounts for their school by taking part.

Promotion consists of $7,500 (dollar bills) being placed at center ice. All 28 teachers race to center ice, where anything goes. There is no time limit, teachers get it all. Additional $4,000 was raised through the evening’s ticket sales. North Shore Bank has served as the presenting sponsor of Dash for Cash since 2008.

Ashwaubenon High School, Bay Port High School, Green Bay Preble High School, Green Bay West High School, Mishicot High School, West DePere High School, Wrightstown High School, Brillion Middle School, Kewaunee Middle School, Marinette Middle School, New London Middle School, Notre Dame of DePere Middle School, Brillion Elementary, Fairview/Sunnyside Elementary, Gegan Elementary, Howard Elementary, Kewaunee Elementary, McKinley Elementary, Meadowbrook Elementary, North Greenville Elementary, O.H. Schultz Elementary, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. John Lutheran, Suamico Elementary, Sunrise Elementary, Syble Hopp, Westside Elementary and Westwood Elementary.

The Gamblers and North Shore Bank will be teaming up again on March 18 to raise funds for the American Heart Association.

Hrenak Commits to St. Cloud St.

The Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender David Hrenak has committed to St. Cloud St. of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Hrenak has seen action in 19 games this season posting a 7-8-0 record to accompany a 2.46 GAA and a .917 save percentage. Internationally, Hrenak helped Slovakia capture the bronze medal at the World Junior Championship during the 2015-2016 season.

Hrenak becomes the 17th Gambler on the 2016-2017 squad to commit to a NCAA Division I institution. Others include forwards Chris Grando (Boston College) John Leonard (UMass), Jared Spooner (Minnesota State), Robert Herrman (Arizona State) Jason Dhooghe (Wisconsin), Dante Palecco (Yale) Matt Jennings (Dartmouth), Brock Caufield (Ohio State), Trenton Bliss (Wisconsin), Josh Kosack (Union), Nolan Moyle (Michigan State), defensemen Connor Mackey (Minnesota State), Michael Bevilacqua (Canisius College), Alexis Binner (Maine), Rourke Russell (Miami) and goaltender David Hrenak (St. Cloud St.).

Gamblers Win Big At Home

The Gamblers defeated the Madison Capitols 7-0 on Saturday night at the Resch Center. With the win, the Gamblers improve to 19-15-2-2.

Scoring for the Gamblers were forwards Dante Palecco, John Leonard (2), Josh Dunne, Jason Dhooghe, Jared Spooner and Matt Jennings.

Box Score

Maksim Zhukov recorded the victory between the pipes for the Gamblers with 17 saves on 17 shots on goal. With the win, the Gamblers improve to 12-7-0 on the season.
