Five Gamblers Selected in the 2015 NHL Draft

The Green Bay Gamblers had a good day on Saturday, as five players with Gambler ties were selected in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.  Overall, 47 players who competed in the USHL were selected.  This list includes first round selections Jack Eichel (NTDP/2nd overall Buffalo), Noah Hanifin (NTDP/5th overall Carolina), Ivan Provorov (Cedar Rapids/7th overall Philadelphia), Zach Werenski (NTDP/8th overall Columbus), Kyle Connor (Youngstown/17th overall Winnipeg), Colin White (NTDP/21st overall Ottawa), Brock Boeser (Waterloo/23rd overall Vancouver) and Jack Roslovic (NTDP/25th overall Winnipeg).  The 47 players selected is a USHL record.

The first Gambler selected was defenseman Vili Saarijarvi, taken in the 3rd round by the Detroit Red Wings.  Saarijarvi spent the past season in Green Bay, registering 23 points (6g and 17a) in 57 games.

A few picks later, Brent Gates heard his name called by the Anaheim Ducks.  Gates’s 2014-15 campaign was cut short due to a leg injury that limited him to 33 games.  In two years with the Gamblers the Minnesota commit appeared in 83 games tallying 21 goals and 21 assists.

Incoming forward Karch Bachman was selected in the 5th round by the Florida Panthers.  Bachman was one of only three high school aged players to participate in the USA Hockey All American Game played this past September in Buffalo, New York.  Bachman, who competed at Culver Military Academy, is committed to Miami of Ohio.

Incoming defenseman Adam Parsells was selected in the 6th round by the San Jose Sharks.  Parsells played his high school hockey at nearby Wausau West.  In his senior year, the 6’6 Parsells captained his team to the state championship game, falling to Superior.  Parsells is committed to play his college hockey at the University of Wisconsin.

In the 7th round incoming goaltender Adam Huska was selected by the New York Rangers.  Huska appeared in five games for the Gamblers during the 2014-15 campaign.  The 6’3 net-minder hails from Slovakia.
