The United States Hockey League and NHL Central Scouting today announced the players selected to compete in the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game that will take place on January 13th in Dubuque, Iowa at the Mystique Community Ice Center. Selected from the Green Bay Gamblers were forwards Brent Gates Jr. and Sam Miletic and defenseman Vili Saarijarvi.
Gates was one of two tenders signed by the Gamblers prior to the 2013-14 campaign. Despite being one of the youngest players in the USHL last year, the Minnesota recruit registered 11 goals and four assists in 50 games. On the international scene, Gates suited up for the U.S. at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Tournament. Gates also appeared in the 2015 Top Prospects Game in Buffalo, New York this past September.
A Bloomfield Hills, Michigan native and commit to the University of Michigan, Miletic proved to be one of the best high school talents in the nation during his stay at Cranbrook High School. In 62 games with Cranbrook, the 6-foot-2 power forward hoarded 59 goals and 68 assists (127 total points), giving him an eye-opening PPG total of 2.05 and a state championship to boot. Miletic also competed in the 5 Nations Tournament in Slovakia last season, scoring once and assisting four goals en route to capturing the gold medal with USA U17.
One of only two member on the 2014-15 roster to be born overseas, Sarrijarvi has several years of experience playing with the U16, U17 and U18 Finland squads, as well time spent performing in the annual Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament. His most recent campaign with Karpat U20 of the Jr. A SM-liiga brought about 28 total points (7 G, 21 A) over 40 games played.
Players selected represent 15 different states and five other countries. Eleven of the players competed in the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game in September. Of the 40 players selected, 34 are committed to play college hockey at NCAA Division 1 programs.
The Green Bay Gamblers collected 1,470 pairs of mittens this past Saturday (12/27) as part of the team’s annual Mitten Toss. The mittens were donated by the 4,277 in attendance along with those in the business community. The mittens are distributed to local elementary schools.
Beginning in 2009, the mitten toss has collected over 8,000 pairs of mittens. Fox Communities Credit Union has been the presenting sponsor each year.
“Giving back to the community is something that the entire Gamblers organization takes great pride in,” says head coach Pat Mikesch. “The mitten toss is a direct result of the commitment from the Gamblers organization, its fans and Fox Communities Credit Union in giving back to the community.”
Along with the presenting sponsor Fox Communities Credit Union, the Gamblers want to thank Saranac Glove, WIXX and volunteers from Bayport High School, Clintonville High School, Green Bay Preble High School and Green Bay West High School.
