The Green Bay Gamblers (16-16-2-1) dropped the first game in a three-game weekend against the Chicago Steel (22-8-6) in a 3-1 contest.
The first period was quiet offensively for both teams, as the score would stay 0-0 heading into the second. The second frame would provide more action, as Matt Deboer (10) would score just seconds after coming out of the penalty box. However, Chicago would get another power play and convert, making it a 1-1 contest with a period left to play. In the third, Chicago would score with seven minutes gone and eventually make an open-net goal, leading to a 3-1 loss for the Gamblers.
Matt Deboer was the lone scorer for the Gamblers and was assisted by John Mittelstadt (7). In net, goalie Aaron Randazzo had a game time of 59:05, saving 34 of 36 shots, allowing 2 goals.
Green Bay will play the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (14-17-1-1) Saturday, February 5, at the Resch Center.
Chicago will play the Tri-City Storm (28-5-1) in Chicago Saturday, February 5, at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
