Former Gambler and Verona, Wisconsin native, Mason Lohrei made his NHL debut last night for the Boston Bruins. Lohrei played 21:23 minutes in the Bruins 3-2 shootout win. Lohrei’s performance did not go unnoticed by Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery: “He was dynamite. He played really well. His poise with the puck in all three zones was very noticeable. He made a lot of intelligent hockey plays.”
Lohrei spent parts of three seasons with the Gamblers. His best season came in 2020-21, where Lohrei set a team record for points in a season (59) and garnered USHL Defenseman of the Year honors. Lohrei finished his Gambler career with 96 points, second all-time among Gambler defenseman, only behind Jeff Finger. Lohrei went onto star at Ohio State University, playing two seasons with the Buckeyes before signing with the Bruins. Prior to his call-up, Lohrei had appeared in seven games with the Bruins AHL Affiliate Providence, producing four assists.
