The Green Bay Gamblers are hitting the ice with the Madison Capitols in a home and home series this weekend. This will be the seventh matchup against the Capitols, last time the teams faced each other ending in a 5-3 Gambler win. Madison currently holds a record of 9-23-1-1 and holding down the 8th spot in the conference with 20 points. A 20 point difference gives the Gamblers a little bit of comfort room, although it’s always best to stay on your ‘A’ game.
The Gamblers hold a 19-11-1-1 record and are in the second spot in the USHL Eastern Conference with 40 points. Some players to watch for include Raimonds Vitolins and Artyom Levshunov. Gambler first year, Raimonds Vitolins, lands on the list by coming off a great weekend series. Acquiring a point in each game of this weekend’s matchup against the RoughRiders, both being goals. The forward scored the last goal of regulation game on Saturday, to tie off the third period allowing the Gamblers to come out on top with a shootout win. The Miami University commit currently sits in the second spot in points on the team, with 27 points in 31 games, and is on a 6 game hot streak scoring points in the last 6 games. Another Gambler to watch for is USHL rookie, Arytom Levshunov, who is also coming off a successful weekend. Grabbing an assist and a shootout goal giving the Gamblers the ‘W’ during Saturday’s matchup in Cedar Rapids. The 17-year old sits in the fourth spot in points on the team with 23 points in his rookie year. The defenseman continues to prove that he is a strong competitor and will surely bring the heat this weekend against Madison.
The Madison Capitols currently hold a 9-23-1-1 record and are eighth in the USHL Eastern conference with 20 points. A couple players to watch for this weekend include Jack Musa and Nathan Lewis. Second year Capitol, Jack Musa, currently sits in the second spot for the team and 15th in the conference in points with 32 points in just 34 games. Almost surpassing himself from last year already, ending the year with Madison with 35 points in his rookie year. The Boston University commit has proven himself once again to be a stellar player to keep an eye on. Another returning Capitol to keep an eye on is Nathan Lewis, who sits in the fourth spot on the team in points with 23 points. The forward finished his year with Madison in the 17th spot on the team with 14 points, 7 goals and 7 assists, already passing those numbers up so far this season. The forward has been on a hot streak, grabbing points in the last 3 games, and will be a tough competitor during this weekend’s matchup. Both Musa and Lewis are strong competitors to keep a watch out for on the ice during this weekend’s home and home series, although the good news for Gambler fans, neither one of them have acquired points in the last game they played facing the Youngstown Phantoms on January 21.
Puck drop is at 7:05 both Friday, January 27 at the Bob Suter Capitol Ice in Madison and Saturday, January 28 at the Resch Center. You can get your tickets at gamblershockey.com or watch live on FloSports.
