Jayson Shaugabay, Gambler affiliate and current forward for Warroad high, helped his team place second in the Minnesota Class A State Championship.
In the buildup to the state final, Shaugabay, who also serves as team captain, would give the Warriors some of his best performances. The Minnesota-Duluth commit would lead Warroad in points with seven on two goals and five assists in the quarter and semifinal games. Shaugabay also gave the Warriors his best through the entire season, scoring 81 points on 27 goals and 54 assists. His 81 points were sixth best in Minnesota and his 54 assists were third best in the state.
Although Warroad would fall to Hermantown 3-2 in the final, this was their first trip to the state title game since 2009, breaking an eleven-year drought.
The Warroad native was drafted by the Gamblers in the 2021 USHL Entry Draft. He was drafted in the first round with the #11 overall pick.
