Gamblers comeback falls short… lose in overtime

The Youngstown Phantoms defeated the Green Bay Gamblers 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon to complete the two game series this weekend at the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio. With the overtime loss, the Gamblers fall to 2-0-2 on the season.

Forwards Ryan Siroky and Gavin Stoick both scored for the Gamblers in the loss.

Cam Hackett suffers the loss for the Gamblers between the pipes with 30 saves on 33 shots on goal.  With the loss, the Gamblers netminder falls to 1-0-1 on the season.

The Gamblers return to the Resch Center Saturday, October 5th as they welcome the Chicago Steel. Face-off is schedule for 7:05pm.  For information on promotions and tickets visit gamblershockey.com/schedule.

Gamblers finish comeback…Win in Youngstown

The Green Bay Gamblers defeated the Youngstown Phantoms 4-3 in overtime on Friday night at the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio. With the win, the Gamblers improve to 2-0-1 on the season.

The highly touted Nick Schmaltz registered a pair of goals in the contest including the game-winning goal at the 3:17 mark in overtime.  The Verona, Wisconsin native also tallied the first goal of the contest for the Gamblers on the powerplay in the first period. It is worth noting, in just three games, Schmaltz has tallied a team high five points ( three goals and two assists).

Kevin Irwin scored the game-tying goal late in the third period to record his second goal of the season. Forward Drew Best also scored for the Gamblers in the win.

Jared Rutledge recorded the win for the Gamblers with 19 saves on 22 shots on goal. With the win, the Gamblers netminder improves to 2-0-0 on the season.

The Gamblers and Phantoms will play and early afternoon game at the Covelli Center to round out this weekend’s action. Face-off is scheduled for 1:05pm. Fans can catch the game at The Pub located next door to the Resch Center, or online at fasthockey.com.

Matt Nelson traded to Omaha

The Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) have traded defenseman Matt Nelson to Omaha Lancers in exchange for the Lancers third round pick in Phase Two of the 2014 USHL Draft.

Matt Nelson appeared in one game for the Gamblers and registered no points.

The Gamblers head to Youngstown for a pair of games this weekend against the Phantoms. Face-off is scheduled for 6:05pm on Friday night and 1:05pm on Saturday afternoon. Fans can catch both games at The Pub located next door to the Resch Center or online at fasthockey.com.

Rutledge Named Reebok Goaltender of the Week

Yesterday the USHL announced goaltender Jared Rutledge has been named Reebok USHL Goaltender of the Week.

Back for his second stint in the USHL, Rutledge backstopped the Gamblers to a 5-1 win over the Chicago Steel on Friday night. The Skokie, Illinois native recorded a 1.00 goals-against average as he turned aside 39 of the 40 shots he saw to register a .975 save percentage.  Rutledge, 19, comes to Green Bay after spending last season at the University of Michigan.  Previously, he spent two seasons in the USHL with Team USA and recorded a 15-11-2 record with a 2.63 GAA and .911 SV%.
