Alex Broadhurst signs with the Chicago Blackhawks

Former Green Bay Gamblers forward Alex Broadhurst has signed an entry level NHL contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Broadhurst recorded 106 points (39G, 67A) in 108 career games with the Gamblers from 2010 to 2012. The New Lenox, Illinois, native led the Gamblers to the 2012 Clark Cup title and was named to the 2012 USHL First All-Star Team.

This past season, Broadhurst tallied 63 points (24G, 39A) in 65 games with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, while ranking third on the team in points and assists, and fifth in goals. Broadhurst also ranked second on the Knights with 28 points (10G, 18A) in 21 OHL playoff games, while leading London to the 2013 Robertson Cup.

Novak voted Second Team All-USHL

Today the USHL announced forward Kyle Novak has been voted Second Team All-USHL for the 2012-2013 season.

Novak capped off an impressive two year career in the USHL with the Gamblers. The O’Fallon, MO native ranked fourth in total scoring in the USHL netting 77 points (27 goals, 50 assists) in 64 games including posting at least two points in 21 games this past season. The 20-year-old led the team with a plus-23 rating and ranked second in the league with four shorthanded goals. Overall, in two regular seasons, Novak registered an impressive 128 points (44 goals, 84 assists) and a plus 44 plus/minus rating. These statistics also etched Novak’s name in the Gamblers record books, as his 84 assists is best in franchise history. Novak is committed to Western Michigan and will join the Broncos this fall.

Schmaltz and Olofsson named to 2012-13 USHL All-Rookie Team

Today the USHL announced that forward Nick Schmaltz and defenseman Gustav Olofsson have been named to the 2012-2013 USHL All-Rookie Team.

Schmaltz ranked fourth in team scoring for the Gamblers during the regular season tallying 52 points (18 goals, 34 assists) in 64 games. The Verona, WI native is considered by many scouts to be the top 1996 birth year forward in North America. Last season, the North Dakota recruit appeared in 11 games scoring four points (one goal, three assists.) and a plus seven plus/minus rating.

Olofsson appeared in 63 games during the regular for the Gamblers registering 23 points (2 goals, 21 assists) to accompany a plus 11 plus/minus rating. Last season, Olofsson skated with the Colorado Thunderbirds program of the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League where he posted 30 points (2 goals and 25 assists) in 38 games. Olofsson is a native of Boras, Sweden but moved to Colorado three years ago with his family and adapted to North American style hockey quickly.

Gamblers select six in Phase One of 2013 USHL Draft

The Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) selected six players in Phase One of the 2013 USHL Draft on Monday. The six players, who were all born in 1997, will be placed on the Gamblers Affiliate List.

The Gambles selected two defensemen and four forwards. With the 10th overall pick the third round the Gamblers selected defenseman Adam Parsells, who played this past season for Wausau West High School in Wisconsin. The Gamblers also selected defenseman Liam Darcy (Berwick Prep School), who is committed to New Hampshire.

Up front the Gamblers selected Forwards Kip Hoffmann (Chicago Mission), Peter Tufto (St. Thomas Academy), Sam Miletec (Cranbrook H.S.), and Ryan Smith (Northwoods Midget).
