Two Gamblers listed by NHL Central Scouting

NHL Central Scouting released their Final Rankings on Wednesday and two Gamblers were listed among the top North American Skaters and Goaltenders. The list includes defenseman Gustav Olofsson (51st) and forward Alex Kile (136th).

In its 38th year of operation, NHL Central Scouting was established prior to the 1975-76 season as a service for the NHL member clubs. The Central Scouting department consists of a staff at the NHL Offices in Toronto, Ontario, along with eight full time scouts and 15 part-time scouts throughout North America.

The 2013 NHL Entry Draft will take place on June 30th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Overall, 32 former Gamblers have been selected in the annual draft. The list is as follows:

Gamblers season ends in Youngstown

The Youngstown Phantoms defeated the Green Bay Gamblers 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio.  With the loss the Gamblers are eliminated from the postseason in the opening round for the first time in five seasons and will not be in the Clark Cup Finals for the first time since 2009.

Defenseman Christian Wolanin was the lone goal scorer in the loss for the Gamblers.

Tony Kujava suffers the loss between the pipes with 20 saves on 22 shots on goal.

The Youngstown Phantoms took the best of five series three games to one and will play either the Dubuque Fighting Saints or the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Gamblers face elimination on the road

The Youngstown Phantoms defeated the Green Bay Gamblers 4-2 on Saturday night at the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio.  With the loss, the Gamblers must win Sunday afternoon to stay in the hunt to repeat as Clark Cup Champions.

Scoring for the Gamblers in the loss were forwards Sheldon Dries and Sebastian Weberg.

Tony Kujava suffers the loss in net for the Gamblers with 19 saves on 23 shots on goal.

The Gamblers are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they try to hold off the Youngstown Phantoms and force a game five at the Resch Center.  Face-off is scheduled for 3:00pm. Fans can catch the game at the Screamin’ Head Buzz located next door to the Resch Center or online at fasthockey.com.

 

Gamblers fall in game two at home: Series tied 1-1

The Youngstown Phantoms defeated the Green Bay Gamblers in game two of the eastern conference semi-finals by a score of 4-2 Thursday night at the Resch Center. With the loss the best of five series is tied at one game apiece.

Alex Kile opened the scoring with a great pass from Jake Linhart to give the Gamblers the 1-0 lead early in the first period. Nick Schmaltz tallied his first career USHL playoff goal early in the second to put the Gamblers up 2-1 going into the final period. Youngstown was able to score three unanswered goals in the third period to earn the victory.

Tony Kujava took the loss in net dropping his playoff record to 1-1. Kujava stopped 24 of the 28 shots he faced.

The Gamblers will go on the road for game three on Saturday night and game four Sunday night against the Phantoms. Face-off is set for 6:15pm both nights.
